Delhi

Shekhawati region - known as open art gallery - exploring the magnificent "havelis" (mansions), built by the rich merchants of the area and called "havelis " derived from the Persian word for "enclosed space". mansions and palaces are decorated inside and out with detailed, vivid paintings and frescoes.

Bikaner - Citadel of Culture and Camels

Founded in 1488 AD by the Rathore prince, Rao Bikaji- a descendant of the founder of Jodhpur. This is a true desert city and situated on the ancient caravan routes which linked West / Central Asia and north Junagarh Fort, Bikaner India with the seaports of Gujarat, making Bikaner a flourishing trade centre in the medieval period.

Junagarh Fort built by Raja Rai Singh ( 1571-1611AD),a general in the army of Emperor Akbar. See the marvels in architecture intricate carvings on red stone, some of the finest collection of Armoury Golden work and also raised lacquer work with glass inlay etc. Also visit the Ganga Golden Jubilee Museum,the best museum in Rajasthan having a vast collection of rare exhibits covering almost every period of Indian history.

Jodhpur-Tales of Grandeur and great Heroes Mehrangarh Fort, Jodhpur

Once the capital of the Marwar State, it was founded in 1459 A.D. by Rao Jodha - chief of the Rathore clan of Rajputs who claimed to be descendants of Rama -the epic hero of the Ramayana. A major trade centre of the 16th Century A.D., the Fortress City of Jodhpur is now the second largest city of Rajasthan.

While the graceful palaces, forts and temples strewn throughout the city bring alive the historic grandeur, exquisite handicrafts, folk dances, music and the brightly attired-people lend a romantic aura to the city.

Mehrangarh Fort: The fort built (1459 A.D.) by Rao Jodha, rises steeply from a rocky scrao winds up Jodhpur Palace Hotel to the massive gateway with immense portals and enter through the Gate of victory - Jai Pole and Loha Pole marked with palm prints of Sati (Rajput Ladies immolated themselves on funeral fire of their husbands.) See Moti Mahal, Phool Mahal, Sheesh Mahal & Rang Mahal with arched windows, chiseled and stone lattice work and exuberance of painted walls and ceiling with miniature. These palaces house a fabulous collection of trappings of Indian royalty including a superb collection of palanquins, elephant howdahs, miniature paintings of various schools, musical instruments, costumes and furniture.

Jaswant Thada: Richly carved white marble cenotaphs of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II which preserves the genealogy of the rulers of Jodhpur along with their life-size protraits.

Jaisalmer - The glory of the golden fort

Rising from the heart of the Thar Desert like a golden mirage is the City of Jaisalmer. A commanding fort Jaisalmer Fort, Jaisalmer etched in yellow sandstone stands with all its awesome spendor, dominating the amber-hued city.

Founded by Rao Jaisal in 1156 AD, on the advice of local hermit Eesul. Bhati Rajputs of Jaisalmer were feudal chiefs who who lived off the forced levy on the caravans laden with precious silks and spices that crossed the territory en route Delhi or Sind. These caravans earned the town great wealth.

For years, Jaisalmer rernained untouched by the outside influences. The rise of shipping trade and the port of Mumbai saw the decline of Jaisalmer. But the desert fortress, that seems to be straight out the "Tales of the Arabian Nights", still enchants.

Khimsar
Morning visit the nearby medieval town of Nagaur, which possesses a fine 11th century mosque and fort. These monuments boast numerous relics from the days of the Great Emperor Akbar. Continue your drive to Jodhpur and upon arrival check into Hotel Umaid Bhawan Palace, a vast building where the Maharaja still maintains his residence.

Afternoon visit to the magnificent Mehrangarh Fort (that reflects the city's glorious and troubled past), Jaswant Thada (the cenotaphs of the former rulers of Marwar) and Mandore (the ancient capital of the state of Marwar). Overnight at the hotel.
